We have been creating fun learning games to teach others about being responsible and safe. Everyone played their game and evaluated it to think about positive aspects and things we could change. |
Welcome to Room 9's 2018 Blog. We are a Year 3 and 4 class. We hope you enjoy reading our blog and sharing our learning activities.

Suter Gallery Visit Stories
The Suter Art Gallery by Joanna Johnston
As we walked into the Suter the first art works we saw were the portraits of Andrew Suter and his wife. The portraits were made of dots. Ester showed us around the Suter and gave us some activities to do. We got to sketch lots of things around the art gallery. The original gallery is 117 years old! And the floor has lots of bumps because people have walked on it for years. The first activity we did was comparing the old to the new, by drawing little sketches in tiny circles. Then we had to sketch some very detailed paintings. One of the paintings was a portrait of Huria Matenga, it looked alot like Alizae. Did you know the original gallery is actually inside the new gallery? I had a great time drawing and sketching at the Suter. On the way back all the people in Matilda’s car seriously considered going to the beach after going to the Suter, but instead we came back to school, which is just as good!
Suter Art Gallery New Addition by Cory Healey
Yesterday Room 7 got to go visit the new Suter Art Gallery! I liked the Suter because some of the paintings have a meaning and they tell stories which is very cool. The thing that I didn’t like that happened was that I threw up and couldn’t stop coughing. We did two fun activities - one where you had to find old new things and the other where you had to find something that reminds you of stuff or someone and something. One of the paintings told a cool story. The painting had a Maori lady called Huria Matenga and a broken ship behind her. My Dad Andrew Healey Signs and my Mum Wendy put sticker patterns on the glass walls of the Suter. My favourite thing there was the boy who was in pajamas that had a broken arm and had his hand down his pants, it looked so real! The entrance is incredible because it has the lady who made the Suter Art Gallery for her husband Andrew Suter. It wasn’t really her, she was made out of dots and it had Andrew Suter next to her. That’s why I like the new Suter Art Gallery.
The Suter Art Gallery by Shuun Yokoyama
On Wednesday it was raining cats and dogs in the morning. Our class Room 7 was supposed to go to Queens Gardens then to the Suter Art Gallery. It was raining so we couldn’t go to the Queens Gardens. We went straight to the gallery. When we got there we had to wait for everybody else. While we were waiting we played a game of charades except it hd no cards in that game. During the game Pam said we had to sit down and wait for Esther. “Finally she came”. We went inside the gallery. As soon as we went in our whole class had to cross their legs and fold their arms because she was telling us an important story about the Suter. Then we walked into this room that had holes like the grey moon. That room was the real Suter which was built and bought by a woman called Amelia Suter. She wanted to build an art gallery for her husband Andrew Suter who passed away. She thought that she’d make something that her husband would like if he was alive. She chose an art gallery because Andrew loved art and painting.

How to be Sun Smart
Things you need:
- sunblock/sunscreen
- sunglasses
- shirt
- brimmed hat
Instructions:
- Put sunblock on your skin that is showing, if you are outside. If you are going swimming at the beach, when you come out from a swim you will need to put more sunblock on your skin.
- Put wrap around glasses on. Wrap glasses are glasses thast cover around the eyes so the sunlight doesn’t come in through the gaps.
- Put a hat on but not just any kind of hat. It needs to be a brimmed hat so it can protect your ears, neck and nose.
- Put on a shirt but make sure that it isn’t a singlet. A shirt will protect your shoulders.

The Variety Concert
The Spectacular Variety Concert by Lucas
Tremendous lights, jumbo audience, flashing phones. It was my turn to perform the Pasa Doble from
Spain.
Marching up to my space went my feet. The music began. Crisp stomps
banged on the bright brown timber. The back line banged on the dented black
timber. I dropped down to my knees and said, “O lé.”
Finally it was the last bit. We
walked to the front and yelled out, “O lé!” The curtains closed, my bit was
over.
Variety Show by Jackson
Last night at the Variety Show concert, walking through the door onto
the stage my heart dropped like a rock.
I was so embarrassed on the stage.
As I ran onto the stage I got even more self conscious. When someone said, “The competitors wore a
full suit of armour.” I got ready to
run. I bolted across the stage like a
cheetah. After that we went up the
stairs to Room 14 while we were waiting for our parents.
We walk up the
stairs of one side of the stage, the current of children dragging me closer and
closer to the wooden stage where the curtains are closed and all the parents
and guardians of the Moana syndicate students are sitting, zealous to see
what’s next. I walk up to where I
normally sit next to Hayley P. The
curtains open, the music starts. We’re on! There are cameras from every
direction blinking in my face, so it is hard to see what I am doing.
Nervous Monday by
Shuun
My body was
shaking, I had goose bumps all over my body.
My heart was pumping up and down like a person jumping up and down like
a person jumping on a trampoline. It’s
our cue to go on stage to do our Pasa Doble. As soon as I got on stage, “flash”
came bright lights high from the roof of the echoing hall. Music started, we had to do our dance. I thought it was worth practising every day
in the hall. We finally finished, the
audience was cheering and clapping. It
was awesome getting clapped by over two hundred people, literally two hundred
people.
The Performance by Joanna
My footsteps
echoed as I walked towards my position holding my shining instrument. The people that were pretending to be statues
around Zeus walked forward, and then froze like they were stone. The words started and we acted as though we
were actually in Greece.
We felt all
nervous and jittery as we waited for the introducers to announce the ancient
Greece item. The floor, which was black and made of wood, felt chilly through
our costumes. As we performed, the
cameras winked at the stage. But
afterwards I felt great and glad that I had performed.
Embarrassing Show
by Zahrlis
One cold night I
went to Nayland College for a Variety Concert.
Going on stage was a nightmare. I was shaking in my part, but I got over
it. People were cheering for us and laughing.
Doing my parts were embarrassing but I kept trying, I was OK when Cory ran past with a censored
sign, that was the best part of the show.
Then we went off stage.
The Variety Show by Ruth
The bright lights
were shining at me and my class as the tourists acted out their part in the
show. Just as they said the part about
the Pasa Doble in Spain, my heart started to beat faster than a galloping
horse. This was our cue. I followed my partner to our place on the
stage. As we did the dance, my mind
rushed through the steps. When we went back to sit down, I thought about what
it would be like on Thursday!
