#The Fairest One of All

There were lots of jokes, singing and dancing when the New Zealand Playhouse presented their drama about Snow White and lots of fairy tale characters from the land far far away.

The goat (who was really Snow White and one of the seven dwarves), tricked The Internet Troll into giving back the computer so he could not post items on Snow White's accounts.

Trapping Bird Predators

Terry and Naomi (Connor's parents) trap predators and showed us different traps.
Terry broke a few sticks setting off the traps.  They are helping reduce predator numbers and increase bird numbers.

Iron Man Stories

The Iron Man
By Ruth

There was a rustling in the tree tops as a great iron foot appeared in front of my Dad’s car.  I was petrified because now there were two dazzling head lamps in the top of the trees.

Suddenly, a colossal iron hand reached out for the car.  My Dad drove right into his foot and he came crashing down like a massive tree was falling.  Now there was just a pile of cogs and metal.

We drove past the iron man and back to our cosy, safe home.  When we got home, there was warm pumpkin soup on the table.

It was a gloomy night and Hogarth smelt oil, as a hedgehog scuttled away.  Then, a giant iron foot stepped out of the darkness.  Hogarth froze with fear, as the iron body came from the trees.  He ran as fast as a cheetah, all the way back to his Dad.

Hogarth’s dad called all the farmers he knew.  They had a serious meeting.

“What is this iron creature?” one of the farmers asked.

That night, the wind was wild, and Hogarth was all cosy in bed.  Hogarth felt horrified in the morning; he thought he’d see that hideous creature again, and he did.

He screamed “AAAAAAAAAh! Please don’t eat me!”

The creature chuckled “I won’t eat you, you’re not metal!”

“Phew.”  Hogarth whispered.

Once, a mother was casually walking down a hill and said to herself, “This is a beautiful place to have a picnic.”

So, she bought her sons and her husband with her and they all sat down to have some food.

They heard a thump, then it stopped.  They thought it was an earthquake from China, but they heard it again.

The boys screamed with horror.  Then, they saw two bulgy arms appear out of nowhere.  They all saw an enormous head, then the body, then the legs, and before you knew it, a whole metal giant appeared.  The mother screeched with horror “Let’s go home!”

They all agreed, so they all sprinted to the blue car and never went to that green grassy hill again.

Once on a lovely sunny spring day, a family were having a delicious picnic on green, soft grass on a hill.

They felt a rumble.  They heard the birds tweet.  Then they saw them fly away in a big flock; as if they were a ginormous giant flying in a hefty plane.

All was quiet, then suddenly, a colossal noise came from the surface of the ground.  The ground shook again.

“It’s an earthquake in Japan!,” said the lovely Mum.  The Dad explained how the impact of an earthquake can travel around the world.

But then, a huge crack covered the hill.  They were petrified!  The red chequered picnic mat slipped through the gigantic crack in the ground.

An oily iron hand crept up through the ground.  All the divine food slipped into the crack.

“Run!” cried the Dad! They all jumped in their bright blue car, and sped away like mad!

One day a family of four were having a picnic on a beautiful hill, with perfect green grass for a picnic. An iron finger suddenly emerged from under the hill. This was no ordinary finger though, for it belonged to a great beast; the iron man. The family did not know this of course because they did not believe in the iron man!
There was a crack and it was getting bigger by the minute. And then the crack was so big it sucked the teapot and picnic mat up. The tremendous hole had separated the girls and boy so the dad declared “run to the car” and so they did.
The adults put the children on their shoulders and they fled for their lives, and when they got to the car they opened the doors and got in. When they got in the car they locked their doors and went, they didn’t even bother to put on their seat-belts because they were horrified.

Once there lived an Iron Man. Everyone was scared of him. One day the Iron Man was stomping through the country’s farms and Hogard was in the car with his dad. Then the next thing they saw was the Iron Man he was right in front of them!
They were horrified and they tried to turn around but they ran out of petrol. Hogard commanded his father to run so he sprinted like he was in a marathon. Once his father was out of signed Hogard shouted in horror “Iron giant please stop eating all of our iron stuff”. Se he did, in fact he followed Hogard to the iron junk yard.

The Iron Man’s Pushing!    by Connor Edwards
Hogarth and his dad are shivering in terror when a gargantuan iron foot and headlamp eyes shine in the distance. Then a huge iron torso emerged from the trees. The ground was becoming shaky and they gazed at the Iron Man's colossal body. They screamed in fright and the car bolted away like Usain Bolt. When they got home they felt petrified, they had just run nose to nose with the Iron Giant.

Iron Man      by Bao Tram
Once upon a time there was a giant of the world called the Iron Man. One spooky night at the vegetable farm all the farmers were in their comfy beds. There were quiet footsteps and silently there was a huge shadow. The Iron Man tried to open the gate and suddenly there was a sound like books falling off the shelf. Very loudly, all the farmers rushed outside, and the giant disappeared very quickly. One of the farmers cried “oh no, where have the tools gone?
The next day the farmers had a meeting to trap the Iron Man. They made a trap so if tonight he came he would get caught in the trap. In the dark night there were no loud noises. In the morning the trap that they set was still there. In the afternoon it was getting darker and darker.
The next lovely morning the trap was still there so Hogarth knew there was a problem. When it was getting darker and darker and when everyone was falling into a dream, Hogarth sneaked outside quietly.

On a peaceful day some people were having a lovely picnic on the spot where the Iron Man was buried.  Then the Iron Man was waking up.  The people thought it was an earthquake happening but then cracks started to appear in the ground and a colossal  hand emerged from the surface.
The itsy bitsy people fled to their car.  They were horrified of the jumbo size hand rushing out of the pit that was dug two months ago.  “GET TO THE CAR” the boy was shouting out.  They were miserable that the picnic was over.
They thought the Iron Man was a nasty invention.  The Iron Mans footsteps were as loud as a gong!

One lovely day there were some people on a hill.  They were having a picnic on the hill but suddenly they felt the ground shaking.  They thought it was an earthquake until they saw a jumbo crack in the ground.
Soon the crack got even wider.  The blanket fell in the crack.  Suddenly a hand came out of the crack.  No one knew what it was but people ran away from the Iron Man.
Suddenly the hill broke into the pieces, then the Iron Man was free from the hole that the farmers made in the ground.  Off the Iron Man went into the town.  Suddenly Hogarth and his family saw the Iron Man

Iron Man By Brodie
When a family was having a picnic, the ground started to shake.  The mum thought it was just an earthquake but they do not have earthquakes in that area.
All of a sudden some of the food was gone.  A humungous iron hand came out of a widening crack.  The family started to hustle and scream in horror.
The Iron Man had awoken in fury.  Green grass had got torn into smithering bits.  The family were still sprinting away in horror and the boy was so so scared that he chucked his hat up in the air.  As the family go into the car, the Iron Man had got out of the hole and onto his feet and stated to eat all the metal he could find.
Then when Hogarth saw the Iron Man he exclaimed “Hey you, hey you come here .  I shall take you to a place where you can eat all the metal you want.  If you stop eating all our metal I promise”.   So he did and they lived happily ever after.

The Huge Iron Man by Darcy
At night when we were driving home, a huge Iron Man came to pick us up as if he was trying to eat us.  We were so scared.  I screamed in my head, “What will happen to us?" I also nearly got a heart attack.
“Dad, Dad, what are we going to do?”
The Iron Man took a gigantic step, he nearly hit out new car. The Iron Man picked us up.  I was so frightened, what is he going to do to us?
He said “I’m a friendly giant I’m not going to eat you. Do you want me to take you home?" “Yes,” they said and  lived happily ever after.

On a sunny day, a family was going to have a picnic. When they were half way there a humungous foot stepped on to the road.  The man that was in the car climbed out of his car and he tried to find out what it was.
The man was fiercely walking into the forest.  The ground was crushed as the footsteps came closer to their car.  It felt like an earthquake rumbling.  The little boy tried to stumble away from the humungous foot as he got too tired to get home without his dad.
The little boy got a fright from the dark gloomy house that he walked slowly into as the Iron man chased him.

“DAD, DAD come see there are head lamps in this tree”!  Hogarth’s Dad came tearing through the trees.  He was stunned at what he saw. There were two blazing white eyes looking down at them and two gigantic feet were in the middle of the road.
Suddenly an enormous IRON MAN strolled out of the huge maple tree and a hedgehog scampered away.  Hogarth managed to shout, “GET IN THE CAR”! They fell into the car and never came back.
At home Hogarth was sooooo horrified that he face planted into his bed.  Oh what a nightmare he had that night.  It was soo wretched that in his dream he woke up and saw out of the window a colossal IRON FACE looking at him.

The Iron Man by Laela
On a nice spring day, out of nowhere, an Ironman emerged from the ground. The crack ate their red checkered blanket as the ground shook. While an Iron Man’s hand appeared out of the ground, all the people could taste was dirt. All they could see was the Iron Man’s hand. All they could feel was the ground shaking and all they could smell was a jumbo oily iron hand. All they could hear was “eeee” as the iron fingers moved.
The dad soon remembered that where they were sitting is where they buried the Iron Man. The Mum and Dad, but not Hogarth, dashed like the wind because Hogarth shouted, “If you leave us alone we will give you all the metal you want. Just follow me. I will show you. There is lots I promise.”
Like Hogarth said (follow me), so the Iron Man did follow and he never stopped eating again. Everyone thought that was a splendid idea. Then they all had a party.

The hedgehog scuttled away, because the Iron Man was coming…cluck…cluck.
Hogarth’s father looked up at an enormous huge head. It looked like it was bigger than 30,000 children’s heads. Hogarth’s father, scared as a squirrel, drove into an enormous metal foot of the Iron Man. Once it was down, the metal giant was tremendously furious. Hogarth heard a grating noise as they were driving away speedily.

The Emerging Iron Hand   by Zahrlis

On a rainy day an iron hand came out of the ground and everyone jumped with fear. Everyone thought it was a zombie emerging from the ground so they screamed while racing to their cars. They drove away to their houses and locked everything so the Iron Man couldn’t get in. The ground started to shake but they thought it was an earthquake but it was the Iron Man trying to break in.

The Tremendous Iron Hand     by Lucas Guyton
Once a family went to have a picnic on the hill that the Iron Man was trapped in. They did not know that the Iron Man was trapped in there. When they stopped unpacking, the ground shook. They thought it was an earthquake but it was not.
The boy saw an immense oily iron hand peering around. The boy gazed at the gigantic iron hand. He screamed. The dad saw the yellow stripped picnic mat sucked into the enormous hole, as was the smoked chicken, the apples and the salad.
As the hand rose from the ground, the family screamed in terror. They bolted to their burgundy car and drove away as fast as they could.
