Suter Gallery Visit Stories

The Suter Art Gallery by Joanna Johnston

As we walked into the Suter the first art works we saw were the portraits of Andrew Suter and his wife.  The portraits were made of dots.  Ester showed us around the Suter and gave us some activities to do.  We got to sketch lots of things around the art gallery.  The original gallery is 117 years old!  And the floor has lots of bumps because people have walked on it for years.  The first activity we did was comparing the old to the new, by drawing little sketches in tiny circles.  Then we had to sketch some very detailed paintings.  One of the paintings was a portrait of Huria Matenga, it looked alot like Alizae.  Did you know the original gallery is actually inside the new gallery?  I had a great time drawing and sketching at the Suter.  On the way back all the people in Matilda’s car seriously considered going to the beach after going to the Suter, but instead we came back to school, which is just as good!

Suter Art Gallery New Addition by Cory Healey

Yesterday Room 7 got to go visit the new Suter Art Gallery!  I liked the Suter because some of the paintings have a meaning and they tell stories which is very cool.  The thing that I didn’t like that happened was that I threw up and couldn’t stop coughing.  We did two fun activities - one where you had to find old new things and the other where you had to find something that reminds you of stuff or someone and something.  One of the paintings told a cool story.  The painting had a Maori lady called Huria Matenga and a broken ship behind her.  My Dad Andrew Healey Signs and my Mum Wendy put sticker patterns on the glass walls of the Suter.  My favourite thing there was the boy who was in pajamas that had a broken arm and had his hand down his pants, it looked so real!  The entrance is incredible because it has the lady who made the Suter Art Gallery for her husband Andrew Suter.  It wasn’t really her, she was made out of dots and it had Andrew Suter next to her.  That’s why I like the new Suter Art Gallery.

The Suter Art Gallery by Shuun Yokoyama

On Wednesday it was raining cats and dogs in the morning.  Our class Room 7 was supposed to go to Queens Gardens then to the Suter Art Gallery.  It was raining so we couldn’t go to the Queens Gardens.  We went straight to the gallery.  When we got there we had to wait for everybody else.  While we were waiting we played a game of charades except it hd no cards in that game.  During the game Pam said we had to sit down and wait for Esther.  “Finally she came”.  We went inside the gallery.  As soon as we went in our whole class had to cross their legs and fold their arms because she was telling us an important story about the Suter.  Then we walked into this room that had holes like the grey moon.  That room was the real Suter which was built and bought by a woman called Amelia Suter.  She wanted to build an art gallery for her husband Andrew Suter who passed away.  She thought that she’d make something that her husband would like if he was alive.  She chose an art gallery because Andrew loved art and painting.
